How to Create a Generation Engine

Intermediate12 min read

A Generation Engine is a saved set of rules for consistent music generation across multiple playlists — including genre, mood, Suno model, negative tags, and even lyrics prompts.

What is a Generation Engine?

A Generation Engine is a reusable preset you create once and then apply across many playlists. It saves your music direction — things like genre, mood, theme, Suno constants, and lyrics prompts — so you get consistent results every time.

Where It's Used

  • In playlist creation, you can select a Generation Engine in the "Personalization Styles" section
  • There's also an earlier "Use a Generation Engine? (Optional)" panel that can auto-fill your fields when you click Generate from Engine

infoPrerequisites

  • ✓ Logged into PlaylistCraft
  • ✓ Access to the Personalization Playground

Creating a Generation Engine

Step 1: Navigate to Generation Engines

  1. Open the dashboard
  2. In the sidebar, click Personalization
  3. Click the Generation Engines tab
  4. Click Create New Engine

Step 2: Name Your Engine

  1. Fill Name (required) — think of it as a reusable preset
  2. Optionally fill Description (Optional) to remember what it's for
  3. Click Create Engine

Step 3: Configure Basic Details

The Basic Details section defines the core musical direction:

  • Genre — The primary genre for this engine
  • Mood — The emotional vibe
  • Theme — The thematic direction
  • Playlist Songs Description — The more detail here, the more consistent the output

Click Save & Continue when done.

Step 4: Set Constants

Constants are the generation parameters sent to Suno:

  1. Toggle Instrumental on/off
    • If instrumental is on, the Language field disappears (language doesn't matter for instrumental-only)
  2. Choose a Model (V5, V4.5 variants, or V4)
  3. Optional: Toggle Enable Vocal Gender Selection and pick Male or Female vocals
  4. Adjust sliders:
    • Style Weight
    • Weirdness Constraint
    • Audio Weight
  5. Under Negative Tags, click Generate Recommended Tags (optional), then add/remove tags as needed
  6. Optional: Pick a Persona ID (Optional) if you've already created a Persona

Click Save & Continue.

lightbulbPro Tip

Negative tags help you avoid unwanted elements in your music — like 'distorted', 'low quality', or specific instruments you want to exclude.

Step 5: Lyrics & Tags

The final section lets you store a lyrics-generation prompt and use the built-in AI assistant to generate and refine sample lyrics:

  1. In Lyrics Generation Prompt, paste or type a prompt you like
  2. Click Generate Sample Lyrics
  3. Optionally click Use This Lyrics to copy the generated result into your prompt box
  4. Optionally click Modify Lyrics, type a modification request, and click Update
  5. Click Save Engine

That engine is now saved and can be used during playlist creation!
